To put it simply, EXDM is about expression.

EXDM is an ongoing body of work, that focuses on the refinement of expression.

As someone who is in constant reflection of the dynamics of this life, I have come to find a focus on expression through existing. How when we become aware of the unique energy that courses through our personal systems, we can attune to, adjust, and refine how it is expressed.

One might call this the practice of ‘authenticity’, I feel it is better defined through the daoist concept of ‘wu-wei’ referring to the non-action or effortless action that comes from being in complete synergy with the body / mind / spirit. A state where expression is not distorted or pushed from the body due to uncertainty or unease. Instead energy flows freely, exiting or transmuting through the body, rippling out in to the ether. This is union with our ‘selves’, this is pure expression.

In devoting - even partially - to a consistent art practice like ceramics, I have come to find there is a high amount of attunement, curiosity, effort, and experimentation needed to get specific about WHAT it is you are ACTUALLY desiring to create, and bridging the gap of skill and tangible reality to get there. It invites some pretty deep and interesting reflection around the process of personal expression. The journey from inspiration to creation, and where along the way I loose sight and distort the vision. It can be pretty meticulous. No art is wrong, but you come to find out pretty early that remaining clear, true, connected and focused is everything. Otherwise you might get something pretty, but it won’t be that specific piece of your soul you were aiming to pull from. And that’s where the fulfilment resides.

All of this to say my ceramics are made with a pure intention of satisfaction and fulfilment. That little piece of my soul. I aim to look at the final product and feel its presence, its specificity.

Each ‘line’ or ‘drop’ of my art will always carry an internal transformation. There was a journey I took to get there.

I also just love making cool shit.
